Be conscientious global citizens, connected to their community, proud of their tūrangawaewae.
Be active learners that have the skills to adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
Motu School students will be embody “Learning as we grow.” The motto captures the vision that Motu founders had when building it in 1895 with the materials at hand, sometimes in an unforgiving landscape. Established in 1895, Motu School’s resilience in the face of hardships has made it a success story with a long standing history. Our emblem, the Kahikatea, is endemic to New Zealand. These trees have been around for 160 million years, each with a lifespan of up to 600 years - Kahikatea can grow to 80 meters tall in the right conditions. The trunk of the tree is buttressed with many supports coming out to stabilise it because it grows in swampy areas. Likewise, in the right conditions our students can reach great heights and live long, healthy lives with the support of our community as a base to stabilise them. This grounding is needed to be resilient in an ever-changing environment.
